The sounds are above average for the Game Gear, featuring unobtrusive tunes and just the right sound effects. I copied track 2 to create a track 1 which is only data on the "real" CD.
K3B had an option to hide the thirst track, so I used that to make it look more like the original. The CD thus created was only a music CD. When I put that in a CD player it would play without problems. When I put the CD in the CD drive and start the game, it would play the cd music correctly while playing the game.
Conclusion: something is wrong with the cue sheet, not the bin data itself. I am far from a mixed-mode-CD expert, but I'm pretty sure that a different cue sheet can make the difference.
I get the feeling that whoever created the image was not concerned about the audio part at all, as a simple test in a normal cd player would have been enough to know the cue sheet was wrong somehow. Again, I'm not the expert here but on closer inspection of the cue sheet I noticed the pregap was set to the default of 2 seconds. Considering that the pregap is meant to hide the first track containing the data, I believe that number should be higher. How much I cannot tell as the question probably comes down to: How long would the data track play if it was played in a normal cd player?
